GO WEST.

February 28, 2008

Old radical architecture magazines. I found this image awhile ago, reprinted in Domus. It inspired the covers for Book Dept.’s newest series, Place Space. (Spring 2008) Today August posted this link THE RADICAL ARCHITECTURE OF LITTLE MAGAZINES 196X–197X, showed in London, 2007. Hot, Bold, Cut n Paste stuff.

HIP APT IDEAS.

February 22, 2008

Please let there be a recycled hippie house vibe in my future! Mr. S blogged this wonder today. It makes me crave the scents of patchouli and frankincense to fill my home with meditative LOVE.

Mr. S at has some more pics if this is your scene.

RUSSIAN WOOD.

February 21, 2008

Oh, the ever delightful and wooden, Russian home. Found on some weird LOC site extension. I am in love with the intricate wooden frames around the windows, a little Hansel and Gretel type of look. (the first house is my dream home—see those beautiful, mismanaged plants outside the windows!? Love!!)

Interiors of these Russia log homes are surrounded by rich reds, blues, plaids, wools on the floor, bed and walls. The last image, a wild beam-balance shelf, very Shaker like interior. Very natural nature. Warm and wooden.

Photographs of the The Rakowski’s are not usually found on the internet, mostly in heaps around Grammie’s bedroom. She likes to wake up in the middle of the night and sort through them. Grammie is an avid photographer. Unfortunately, she now owns a digital camera and unable decode its advanced technology. She needs to get her old school point and shoot back on the scene!

These sweet images were found in my Grampie’s old wallet. Left to right: John & Mary at a park on a date, John & Mary dating, portrait of Mary (during courtship), John in 1929 wearing a suit made by the hands of his mother. John is one of six children.

PYRAMIDS AT HOME.

February 12, 2008

This incredible at-home Orgone Accumulator invented by Austrian-American psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, Wilhelm Reich, only adds to my desire to build a pyramid type structure aka. a teepee inside my apartment. Mr.S posted some fantastic Orgone devices on his blog—never have seen any shaped like a pyramid. I only hope Mr.S agrees to my orgoneastic tipi making schemes!

Orgone Accumlators: In 1940, Reich built boxes called orgone accumulators to concentrate atmospheric orgone energy; some were for lab animals, and some were large enough for a human being to sit inside. Reich said orgone was the “primordial cosmic energy”, blue in color, which he claimed was omnipresent and responsible for such things as weather, the color of the sky, gravity, the formation of galaxies, and the biological expressions of emotion and sexuality. For more info watch this movie.

Here are some more teepee like structures that are inspiration for my potential living room oasis.

WINTER IN NYC.

February 11, 2008

There used to be snow. Now it’s a bitter cold that keeps you working late and drinking tea. Winter at least still holds on to its traditional coldness—it’s brutal out there. Bundle up those fingers of yours! Like the old saying goes, “Before you look hip, think about the nip!”
